  A question for my friends in the USA about cowboys.

  as a kid growing up in the uk we used to play 'cowboys and indians' and watch high chaparal and bonanza along with other cowboy films.

  later, in the 70's kung fu would be shown with caine going through the 'old west'.

  we even had a chocolate bar that was marketed with a 'cowboy' theme...milky bar.. as far as i know the 'wild west' as shown on tvdidn't actually exist.. are there people that believe it did?.

  I think cowboys still exist in many forms.

  If you go out in the country, farmers are still like cowboys.

  They wear cowboy hats, carry guns and herd animals.

  In the cities red necks/ hillbillies, are all over they wear cowboy hats and clothes and boots

  and listen to country music.

  A lot of people ride horses, cowboy hats and boots some places they even wear and carry guns.

  Country, hillbilly music is the new rock and roll, since rock and God have died.

  One out of every 4 cars in Florida has a gun in it.

  as a kid i only collected comic books until around 1962.. my collection was very important to me and i had emotional excitement at the release of a new comic--but--i made a date with 2 girls.

  on the same day and didn't have any money!

  (not thinking it through, you see :).

  I collect a lot of things.

  It irritates my wife.

  I have lots of guitars and amplifiers.

  I have started building guitars,

  because I have pretty much bought all the ones I like.

  I also have a box full of knives

  A box full of beer cans from the 70's.

  A box full of baseball cards.

  A wall full of books.

  A bag full of soccer balls.

  Books and guitars are something I am liable to buy any given day.

  I wont buy a book unless I am going to read it.

  And if I read it I keep it.

  I also have a collection of music and videos.

  I have every song that I have ever found remotely interesting.

  I started out collecting 78's 33&1/3's 45's, Cd's

  But for the past 10 years I have everything digitalized and saved on hard disc.

  I have videos of all my favorite bands and songs.

  I also have dvd's of all my favorite movies.

  I started out with Vhs and replaced them and continued on with dvd's.

  I started out collecting money, silver, stocks.

  I have many jars of change.

  I never give change when I buy things, I give dollar bills and put the change in

  jars.

  the collapse of large parts of the ice sheet in west antarctica appears to have begun and is almost certainly unstoppable, with global warming accelerating the pace of the disintegration, two groups of scientists reported monday.. the finding, which had been feared by some scientists for decades, means that a rise in global sea level of at least 10 feet may now be inevitable.

  the rise may continue to be relatively slow for at least the next century or so, the scientists said, but sometime after that it will probably speed up so sharply as to become a crisis.. this is really happening, said thomas p. wagner, who runs nasas programs on polar ice and helped oversee some of the research.

  theres nothing to stop it now.

  How Much Drinking Is Too Much?

  i have seen that some say if a man has 3 beers per day or a woman has 2 glasses of wine per day, that they may have .

  I would love to drink a bottle of whine every day.

  Or a six pack of light beer which would be about the same

  600 calories.

  I play soccer 4 times a week go to the gym 4 or 5 days a week.

  Cut the grass by hand.

  And I still can not keep my weigh down.

  If I were to take in 600 extra calories a day.

  I would be fat.

  I have seen how fat people get just from drinking coke every day.

  I drank a 6 pack a day in my twenties which is like a bottle of wine.

  I wish I could do it in my 60's

  It is kind of depressing.

  600 calories a day is 4200 a week.

  That is like eating 2 extra days worth of food.

  after a year you would be carring around an extra 100lbs.

  for example today i may believe there is no after life.

  I agree with you.

  I enjoy hearing other peoples point of view.

  What makes people so greedy/jealous/unthankful

  the owner of the company that i work for was talking to me today about his brother who chose a different line of business and makes more money than him.

  he seems to be upset about his choice of work.

  but when when i look around this guys yard he has done very well for himself but apparantly not as well as his brother.

  I have a lot of toys.

  I stopped early to play with them.

  I wont have the most toys when I die.

  But I will have spent a lot of time playing with the toys that I have.

  And If I see a toy I like I buy it.

  But I ask myself, will I have time to play with it.

  And when will I have time to play with it.

  I have been retired now for 2 years.

  And there are not enougb hours in a day.

  I can not play with evrything I got in a way I want and as much as I want in any given day.

  I doubt I will have time to do and play with all the things I have in the rest of my lifetime.

  prologos.

  I meant when I was young, I was not aware of the damage alcohol did to me.

  Today I am aware that I hurt if I drink alcohol and then run for an hour.

  When I was young I did not run for an hour or so. Today, I am in better shape

  at 62 then at 22.

  And I don't want to abuse my body like I did at 22.

  I agree drinking is and was addictive.

  I used to go to AA and did not have a drink for 7 years.

  Those were 7 very good years.

  I think this is a large part of the problem...when faced with the inadequecies of a religious text, those that hold that text as holy always try to "make sense" of it - i.e. rationalize/justify it. The god of the hebrew scriptures was an unmitigated asshole, but the capability of humans to rationalize away the flaws in themselves, their beliefs, and those that they love knows no bounds.

  That is your perogative to come to that conclusion.

  I hope it serves you well.

  I hypothosize God caused the flood and the language disruption at babel.

  Becaue he wanted to keep man in his image.

  and he wanted them to fill the earth to prove a point to man, not to God.

  He did not want them making minotaurs, satyrs, centaurs.

  Plus he did not want them to conquer the atom until the earth was populated.

  Joe, I do realize it could be a myth,

  I am hoping it is not, because my interpretation will have a happy ending,

  so I am plaing devils advocate, pun intended.

  God probably has a timetable and a way he wants things done.

  We can always arm chair quarter back and say how we would do things.

  People who like to do that become mormons, latter day saints.

  There reward in the next life is to be God of their own world.

  Many times throughout my life I have said if I was God

  I would not do thngs the way he did them.

  But that is not the way it works.

  So I try to understand and make sense of the way God does things.

  A lot of times it is his way or the highway.

  The book of job and ecclesiates give me that message.
